The municipality of Tijarafe is situated on the north-east coast of the island, between Los Llanos de Aridane and Puntagorda, and its limits are marked by the ravines of Las Angustias and Garome, it covers 52 sq. km. and has a population of 2,200. the town centre is situated at an altitude of 640 m.

As with other counties on the island, the main occupation of the local people is agriculture. Water, extracted at great effort from wells and underground galleries, has transformed these lands into fruit-bearing ones: avocados, fruit, almonds and bananas are the main products.
La Punta, on the coast, is the most important farming land with the ideal conditions for growing bananas. The water necessary for irrigation is brought up from the ravine of Las Angustias, 500m below : a clear example of the energy and persistence of the local people.

Mirador de El Time. - Next to the main road, on the edge of the ravine of Angustias, this viewing point offers the visitor a spectacular view of the whole of the valley of Aridane, and in the distance, the majestic sight of the Caldera de Taburiente.

Church of La Candelaria. - A remarkable 16th century sacred building. Inside, the main altarpiece is attributed to Antonio de Orbarán in the 17th century, with carvings of the apostles, and canvases representing the mysteries of the Rosary. Also interesting are the 16th century Flemish carvings in polychromatic wood of Our Lady of Candelaria, the patron saint of the town.

Mirador de Hoya Grande. - This is a natural balcony overlooking the Valley of Aridane and La Caldera de Taburiente. Access is along a forest path that leads from the main road between the neighborhoods of Tinizara and Aguatavar.

Cueva Bonita. - On the coast of this area, below the cliffs we find this sea cave. It can be reached by sea from Tazacorte. There are two entrances, and, once inside, we find a small beach with clear waters. In the evening, when the sunlight enters the hollow, it creates an incomparable spectacle.
