The town centre, San Juan de Puntallana, which lies at an altitude of 420 m, along with the flat clayey lands of Tenagua, form the ideal place for the cultivation of cereals and fruit, and the raising of cattle. Many years ago this lovely little town was considered the granary of the island. Like most of the villages, the main source of income is agriculture. For many decades on its extensive coastal terraces, plantations of bananas of excellent quality have been cultivated.

There is there, The Church of Saint John the Baptist, in the town centre. houses valuable altar-pieces and images, including the Flemish carving of Saint John the Baptist from the 16th century.
Of similar importance and also built in the 16th century, are the hermitages of San Bartolomé and Santa Lucía - the latter standing in a beautiful spot surrounded by palm trees.

The beach of Playa de Nogales. is hidden behind an impressive wall of rocks and cliffs, can be reached after a fifteen-minute walk from where you have to leave your car, made of fine black sand where sea turtles are often found, it is protected by the Act on the Protection of Nature Areas.

Mirador de San Bartolomé. - This viewing point is next to the hermitage of the same name. From here the majestic ravine of La Galga can be glimpsed, as well as the popular bridge and the hamlets in San Andrés y Sauces.

Cardonal de Martín Luis. - This is a natural area where the largest growth of thistles (Euphorbia canariensis), endemic to the Canaries, can be found. It is situated next to the road from Tenagua to the estate of Martín Luis.

Cubo de la Galga. - The largest forests on the island are found in Cubo de La Galga and Los Tiles, where laurisilva forests are protected by UNESCO as part of the Biosphere Reserve. This area captivates both local people and visitors to the island due to its beauty, its strong scents and the shades of its woodland scenes. Laurisilva, lime trees, laurels, chestnuts and other species compete for the sunlight. Giant ferns complete this extraordinary wooded area.

Casa Luján. - This is a traditional large Canarian house built in the mid-nineteenth century, which has been recently restored. It has a centre for rural tourism, an ethnographic museum and offers craft-work and other local products for sale.
