In the highlands of the Valley of Aridane, bordering on twelve municipalities with the Caldera de Taburiente, El Paso is situated in the centre of the island, at about 650m above sea level.

With its 85 sq. km. of forest land, plus the surface area covered by the Caldera de Taburiente which belongs to this district, along with nearly 8 sq. km. of cultivated land, this represents the biggest municipality of the island.
The population is more than 7,000 inhabitants spread over its 135 sq. km. the majority of which live in the town centre; however, many local people live in typical small houses decorated with flowers and flowering trees. The almond is the most distinctive fruit. It's not surprising that the town is known as the "city of the almond trees", and what a superb sight it is to drive through the area.
What with its agriculture and its industry (tobacco and silk manufacture), El Paso is one of the richest municipalities of the island.
The hand production of silk in El Paso shows us the results of years of exquisite work, again this is a must to visit.
